MYERS: Whatever you think of Trump, he’s an antidote to sanctimony

Glory be, the Orange Monster is back, and the whimpering ninnies in The New York Times and The Guardian are running around in circles, their fingers in their ears, shouting aloud so they can’t hear the rolling thunder of the real world. Who will fight the Orange Monster? The man in the White House, who in two years’ time will be thirty years older than was Abraham Lincoln after he’d won the Civil War, abolished slavery and begun the trans-American Union Pacific railway? Quite so, whereas, in his term in office, by admitting eight million illegal immigrants, Biden has probably done as much to end the union as Lincoln did to save it.

Trump, like Lincoln is a visionary. He wants to save the Union. Whereas Biden is a deranged, egomaniac who has spent thirty-seven years – as much time as elapsed between the Battle of Britain and the introduction of Concorde – seeking the most powerful office in the world. Any Republican who had behaved so monomaniacally would be vilified as one-dimensional, shallow and insane. Instead, it is the Orange Monster who is execrated with the most damning epithet within the lib-left’s dictionary: populist.

I do love you Mr. Myers – but you have omitted several important facts from the narrative :

  • the US’s involvement in Ukraine and in particular their sabotage of Nordstream 2 has been cataclysmic for Europe and European energy prices
  • Trump’s endorsement of Mr. Fauci – the most dubious “scientist” in history and his involvement in gain of function research
  • the leaking of the tapes of German luftwaffe generals opining about how they can participate in the Ukraine war without being discovered – in other words that WW3 may be already underway and the lack of outrage from the European and American public at the behaviour of their suicidal leadership.

I believe Trump actually was fooled into that one. They treated him like an idiot. The project warp-speed was a pentagon project from the start!

Some older readers may remember a Home Office scientist – Dr. Skuse – his “expert” (the quotation marks are particularly warranted in his case) opinion was partly instrumental in putting the Birmingham Six behind bars – Fauci is in the same bracket as Skuse – but when you think about “what can go wrong” with hastily produced “gene therapies”, the implications of Fauci’s acts and omissions for masses of the population are truly staggering. If Trump wanted to know Fauci’s “form”, it would have been easy to do so – Trump must share culpability and I think to consider that he was just fooled by Fauci – as one reader says here – is wide of the mark.

If its a choice between Biden and trump then it’s really a poor choice. Trump is the only one that will likely make it to the end of a term. Biden is going down hill at a rate of knots both physically and cognitively. This does not mean Trump is the best candidate,he’s just the only real choice of 2. What we need here in ireland is a government of integrity that wants to work for Ireland and its people. A government not just following orders from crooks in the EU. Our government has been caught out lying to us to get dubious legislation passed into our constitution for reasons we don’t even know and more to the point we don’t even know who wanted our constitution changed. That’s all very worrying and could have been very damaging to our country. Can we put the words integrity and Trump in the same sentence?

“This was why Russia failed to crush the EU two years ago, as Putin had intended. Vast gas-exports from Galveston in tankers protected by the US Navy, saved Europe, despite the fevered opposition of Europe’s Green parties’
.
Who imposed sanctions on whom?
.
Europe, on American orders, imposed sanctions on Russia. Russia has not imposed comparable sanctions on EU countries. The US/EU sanctions (unilateral and illegal because not UN approved) were intended to “crush” Russia.
.
Nordstream, long opposed bitterly by the US, was destroyed by the US for two purposes, 1, to deny revenue to Russia, and 2. to ensure a captive market in Europe for more expensive US LNG. If anyone was “saved” following NS destruction, it was the profits of the US LNG industry now secured by wealth transfer from Europeans paying higher than necessary prices for energy.

Nordstream was destroyed by the CIA. They crave nonstop wars and are the ones really “in charge.” They do not reflect the values or wishes of the average American citizen.

The Choice , Biden or Trump. Well let’s examine their record. Biden is an obviously demented puppet who would sell his granny for high office.
He is a war monger who has consistently supported the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the middle east. He ordered the American army out of Afghanistan ( a place they never should have been) and unfortunately handed over a huge arsenal to the Afghan Taliban. He rattles his sabre at Iran and assists the Saudis in their war against the Yemenis.
He has opened the southern Mexican border to an estimated 8 million so called refugees that have flooded into America in much the same fashion as the EU has done here, with similar results. Have I left anything out.?
Trump , in his four years , Closed the border, did not engage in any new wars made peace with North Korea and kept the American economy upbeat with cheap gas and oil and much to his credit pulled the US out of the Paris climate Accord obligations.
I’m not American but if I was I know which of those two I’d vote for
Hint it wouldn’t be Biden.

Myers implies it was Russia who blew up Nordstream, that is just absurd.

To answer your question Kevin, I would prefer Donald Trump every day of the week, of the month and of the year. But then I’v been a MAGA Trump supporter since 2016, and endured the mockery and disbelief for my stance. As I have said to anyone who will listen, he is a P T Barnum figure, a showman always ready to perform in the circus. I understand him perfectly. On everything? NO, but he is in my view quite an intelligent man, matured from his life’s experiences. He very genuinely wants to restore America from the destruction of Biden and Democrats.
But thanks Kevin for an excellent article. Food for thought I believe. 👍👏🇮🇪

If elected, I hope Trump will, in addition to making NATO members continue to pay for NATO, will address prescription drug cost by making the EU also pay for that. American consumers have subsidized the entire world in this area and I am sick of it. It’s time that they also pay their “fair share.”

The only way to get a black woman into the white house is for Biden to win and then die. Bit like Leo here being handed his position the first time around from Enda Kenny and then embarrassingly takes the seat again after 6th count in his own constituency.Whats up with democracy?

It’s not about voting for who you “like” anymore… it’s about voting for who will do the least harm to their country.
Great article, so refreshing to read witty, smart and original.

There’s two qualities people should look out for in people seeking political office
1) Intelligence (and thr more areas of expertise they have the better
2) Some semblance morality and a sense of the common good.
This is where the Irish are very prone to sanctimonious people who are ‘feigning’ morality which Kevin Myers has alluded to many times. Irish people need to a little better at identifying the ‘bullshitters’

And that’s it. Those two qualities. We don’t need a Trump. Whatever you think of Biden it is clear to me and many others that Trump is a bad person. You don’t need to have a subscription to the Guardian to recognise that.

Would you support a decision by Ireland to copy the UK's "Rwanda Plan", under which asylum seekers are sent to the safe - but third world - African country instead of being allowed to remain here?
