If you believe in the long-term authenticity of that Iranian “ceasefire” in the Gulf of Hormuz, you probably also sent your bank account details to that nice Nigerian gentleman stuck in Istanbul airport. The real world meanwhile faces a series of existential conflicts that no sane person wants, but localised fevers blind too many governments to the iron laws of consequence. We need calm minds and steady nerves: what we have in Ireland in particular is a loudly-proclaimed sanctimony masquerading as policy.
Putin, Trump, Xi, Kallas: these are the architects of global diplomacy, and you may be forgiven for collapsing in hysterics at both the presence in that list of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the preposterousness of her title. You probably don’t recall voting for Kallas or her policies, whatever they might be, but that’s democracy, EU-style.
