At the time that Jozef Puska murdered Ashling Murphy in Tullamore in January 2022, he was living in a house in Muckla, near the town, with his two brothers, all three of their wives, and fourteen children between them.
None of the three Puska brothers worked. The family was entirely funded by the work of others: Social welfare payments and children’s allowance. Presumably rent allowance as well. On a rough basis, the household will have been bringing in over €2,500 per week in state social welfare supports, assuming all six adults were on jobseeker’s allowance and children’s allowance was paid in respect of all of the children (€58 per week for under 12s, €78 per week for children aged 12 and above).
