A story in the Irish Times yesterday caught my eye. It was one of those that, presumably unintentionally, sat up and made me ask myself whether I was the only person in Ireland who noticed the pattern. My answer to that question is that I was presumably not the only person in Ireland to notice, but I might well be the only eejit dumb enough to commit my thoughts on it to print.
Anyway, the story concerned a series of tenants in a Dublin property who are facing into homelessness in the new year because their landlord, like many other landlords, is selling up. Unaddressed in the Irish Times article is whether this sale, like so many others, is motivated by the Government’s oppressive new regulations on landlords due to come into effect next March. But I’ve digressed long enough. The Irish Times piece was headlined “Mass Eviction on Mountjoy Square: I don’t know where to go with the babies”:
