Here are some figures for you to digest, if you are, like me, something of a free speech warrior: Last week’s Irish Times poll found that 76% of Irish voters favour banning social media for under sixteens entirely. It further found that 90% of Irish voters favour “banning access to social media companies that are found to have broken the law by circulating illegal images”.
No need to guess, by the way, about which social media platform 90% of voters might have in mind when they are expressing their view that should the state find it to have broken some law, a firewall should be erected banning their fellow citizens from even looking at it.
