Nothing, for me, summed up Britain’s disconnect with Northern Ireland quite like seeing the words “British hero” splashed across the tabloids to describe the Irish-speaking West Belfast man who beat a violent attacker off with a hurl.
Maitiu Mág Tighearnán, 32, has become Belfast’s Batman, and rightfully so, after he fought off the knifeman with a hurl when he stumbled upon the brutal attack on his way back from taking his son to hurling practice.
