A man who “fled war in Somalia” as a child became abusive towards Gardaí after he was found “highly intoxicated” on Capel Street Dublin 1.
Garda Calvin Chapel told Dublin District Court how he came across Abdi Mohamed (42), who has an address in Dublin, was unsteady on his feet and was observed to be “wobbling”.
After Garda Calvin approached Mohamed he proceeded to “urinate on the street in view of the public” before becoming verbally abusive, calling Gardaí on the scene “sewer smelling” and telling them that their “mothers are bitches”.
He was arrested as Garda Curtain believed he was “a danger to himself and others” and later charged with a breach of Section 6 of the Public Order Act.
Mohamed’s defending counsel, Mr. Walsh, told the court that his client had “fled war” in his native Somali at the age of 7, and that he had been “moving from place to place for 10 years,”.
He has 4 previous convictions, the most recent of which is from the 7th of July 2025.
Judge Michele Finan convicted Mohamed and fined him €25 with 12 months to pay.
