A man in his 20s has been charged as part of the investigation into a fatal stabbing in Dublin over the weekend.
Nigerian asylum seeker Quaham Babatunde, 34, died after being stabbed on South Anne Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Reports suggest the incident followed an altercation between two groups out socialising, with Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan calling the event “shocking”.
Three men were arrested yesterday in connection with the case—two in Dublin and one in Belfast.
One of them is set to appear before Dublin District Court this morning, while the other two remain in custody with Gardaí and the PSNI.
Investigating Gardaí have continued to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
“Any person who may have been present in the vicinity of South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper, Dublin 2 between 2:45am and 3:30am on Saturday 15th February 2025,” they’ve said in a statement.
“Gardaí are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have information about any of these incidents or has any mobile phone footage recorded at the relevant locations, and any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area or in the vicinity of Dawson Street and St. Stephen’s Green at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
Gardaí have also said that the post-mortem examination of the deceased is completed, but that the results are “not being released for operational reasons.”
During the incident, a second man, also in his 30s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries for which he received hospital treatment.
