A man is due to appear before Cork District Court this morning after €1,000,000 of suspected cocaine was seized.
During a joint operation by An Garda Síochána and Customs Officers, assisted by the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit, a man was stopped and searched at Cork Airport on the morning of Monday 31st August, 2026.
During the course of the stop and search, Customs Officers seized a number of packages of cocaine; the estimated street value of the seizure is €1 million.
The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 in a Garda Station in Cork. The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
The man has since been charged in relation to the seizure and is due to appear before Cork District Court this morning as investigations continue.
Also in Cork, Gardaí attached to the Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by members of the Southern Regional Drugs Unit and the Armed Support Unit (ASU) Cork City, conducted a search under Operation Tara resulting in the seizure of approximately 1.5 kilograms of suspected heroin with an estimated street value of €210,000.
The seizure was made on Tuesday 1st September 2026, following an operation in Cork City.
A woman aged in her 40s was arrested in relation to the operation. A stop and search of a vehicle was conducted a short distance away and a man, aged in his 60s, was also arrested.
A search of a premises was subsequently conducted under warrant. During the course of the search, approximately €13,000 in cash was recovered, along with a further €1,950 in cash. Drug paraphernalia was also seized.
The suspected heroin will be examined by Forensic Science Ireland. The man and the woman arrested are currently detained at Garda stations in Cork City under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
