A UK national has been charged with possession of animated child sex abuse images.
Finley Bowd (21) of Harbour View Close, Brixham, Devon, was on his way to comic book convention Comic Con in New York, when he was stopped by Homeland Security in Terminal 2 of Dublin Airport.
Bowd is charged with possession of anime images of category 3 child pornography and possession of anime images of child sexual abuse contrary to the Child Pornography and Trafficking Act, 1998.
He has no previous convictions in the UK, where he works as a cashier in a supermarket and earns £600 per month.
Bowd was released on bail after Gardaí accepted a lodgement of £400, with the court hearing that this is a substantial sum given his personal financial circumstances.
He has made an undertaking with his mother that he will return to Ireland to face the charges against him.
He must also be contactable on his mother’s phone number as his own phone has been seized as part of the investigation.
The accused was remanded on bail to appear before the courts again on the 6th of November.
