A man in his 30s has been arrested as part of the investigation into the death of an elderly woman in County Waterford. The woman’s body was discovered on Monday.
He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the South Eastern Region.
Gardaí in Waterford continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the woman’s body as investigations continue.
The woman, believed to be aged in her 80s, was found dead at a residential property in the rural area of County Waterford at Ardsallagh near Youghal Bridge.
Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of her body shortly after 2pm, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Dungarvan Garda Station. A Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has also been appointed to support the family.
The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and the services of the Garda Technical Bureau have also been requested to assist with the investigation.
A post-mortem examination will be arranged and the results will assist investigating Gardaí in determining the course of their inquiries.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, in particular those who were in the Ardsallagh or Youghal Bridge areas in recent days. Road users with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from the area, are also urged to come forward.
