A man in his 80s was pronounced dead after being retrieved from stormy sea waters off the Great South Wall in Poolbeg.
The Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard said that a person was located yesterday in water beside Great South Bull wall during stormy sea conditions. “The casualty was recovered but sadly had passed away,” they added.
“Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” they added.
“During stormy sea conditions, heed safety warnings, keep clear of the coastline and don’t ever take risks. Remember if you see anyone in trouble or think they are in trouble in or near the water, dial 112 or VHF channel 16 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard.”
Gardaí said that emergency services had been called after the man had entered the water at 2.15pm. The local coroner has been notified and a postmortem examination is being arranged.
