A 68-year-old Irish man has appeared before Dublin District Court after he was charged with two counts of rape, as well as one count of false imprisonment and one count of aggravated burglary.
The charges relate to a cold case incident in 2003, when the alleged victim was in her 30s.
Detective Garda Inspector Trevor Scanlon of the Divisional Protective Services Unit in Dundrum told Judge Michele Finan that the accused replied “not guilty” in respect of all four charges.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in the Dublin area earlier this week following Garda investigations.
Representing the accused, solicitor Andrew Vallely said that a bail application would be reserved until a later date and asked for the accused to be produced before Cloverhill; however, Judge Finan ordered that the accused be produced before Dún Laoghaire District Court to allow for geographical constraints.
The court heard that the accused has no immediate medical needs but that any health checks would be subject to the prison governor.
He is to be produced before Dún Laoghaire District Court on Monday morning.
