New figures reported by the Irish Examiner show that in 2025, the first full year under An Garda Síochána’s redesigned Physical Competency Test, male applicants passed at a rate much higher than their female counterparts: a 1.25% failure rate for men against 8.7% for women — roughly seven times higher.
Fewer women applied at all than in recent years.
