Two of the world’s greatest and intractable conflicts started within just a few months of each other in the year of our lord, 2022. In February of that year, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a “special military operation” to – in his words – “demilitarise and denazify Ukraine”.
Three months later, in May, then Principal of Wilson’s Hospital Secondary School, Niamh McShane, requested that teaching staff in her school should refer to a particular pupil by a new name and use “they/them” pronouns, sparking a war with Enoch Burke and his wider family that continues to the present day.
