The first major outcome of the new infrastructure plan announced by the Government before Christmas is today’s launch of the ‘Large energy user action plan’ published by the Ministers Peter Burke and Darragh O’Brien.
This will be the template for the effective lifting of a moratorium on new data centres in the Dublin region following the decision by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU.) The criteria for connection is that the centres must have their own onsite generators and battery systems but the electricity used is still part of the overall capacity within the State.
