Irish Girl Guides allows trans biological males to sleep among girls

The Irish Girl Guides officially allow biologically-male transgender members to use female toilet facilities and to sleep in the same area as girls on overnight trips, according to the group’s official guidelines.

The Girl Guide scouting organisation receives State-funding from Minister Roderic O’Gorman’s Department of Equality and Youth, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Rural and Community Development, South Dublin County Council, Pobal, Irish Aid and more.

According to a document entitled “Guidelines for the Inclusion of Transgender Members,” the organisation, which describes itself as “girl-only,” accepts biologically-male transgender individuals who identify as female into its ranks.

“PEOPLE WHO MAY BE BORN AS MALE BUT ARE LIVING THEIR LIFE AS A GIRL”

“In relation to transgender, Irish Girl Guides accepts any person who lives their life as female,” the document reads.

“This means people who may be born as male but are living their life as a girl or woman.”

The group adds that children as young as 5 years old – the youngest age group that can join the Girl Guides – can be transgender.

“CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS 5” CAN BE TRANS

“Children as young as 5 years old can be aware of their gender identity, though this awareness
often comes to the fore as teenagers and adults,” the text says.

The scouting organisation says that adult biological males applying to become female scout leaders do not have to announce that they are transgender.

TRANS GUIDE LEADERS DON’T HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THAT THEY’RE MALE

“An adult who applies to be a Leader does not need to declare if they are transgender,” the text reads, adding that “confidentiality prevails.”

The group also says that their official policy is to allow transgender biological males to use female toilet facilities if they so choose.

BIOLOGICAL MALES CAN USE FEMALE TOILET FACILITIES

“In most settings, female toilets are cubicles and each individual’s privacy is respected,” the document says.

“Trans girls” (i.e. biological males) “should be allowed to use the same facilities as others and not assigned specific facilities unless they/their parents request it.”

BIOLOGICAL MALES CAN SLEEP AMONG GIRLS OVERNIGHT

Another stated policy is that biological males can sleep among girls during overnight trips provided they identify as female.

“As a member of a Unit, all girls will participate in the same activities as all members of your Unit,” it reads.

“For trans members, this includes sleeping in the same area as the other members if the trans girl/woman herself is comfortable.

“For overnight events, the Leader should discuss with the member who is trans what their preference is. If they are under 18 and have a group of friends, they may feel most comfortable sharing with them. At no point should they be separated in a stigmatised way.”

USING GENDER PRONOUNS

The guide also includes recommendations around the use of gender pronouns.

“When a person transitions from male to female, the pronouns (he/she/her/his) used to describe them usually change,” the document says.

“This can be an important part of the process. In Guiding, as all our members are female, Leaders can continue to refer to all with the female pronouns ‘her’ or ‘she’.”

AGE RANGE OF 14 TO 30

Notably, the Girl Guides’ Senior Branch includes the age range of 14 to 30, meaning adults could potentially be involved in Guide activities with minors.

“Many people think you can only be a member of Senior Branch (a Senior Brancher) if you have been in Guiding since you were small,” the group’s website states.

“That’s not true! You can jump in and get involved at any age.”

GENDER DEBATES CONTINUE

Gender ideology continues to be a contentious issue in Irish society, with the Irish government’s controversial upcoming hate speech bill explicitly covering speech that relates to “genders other than that of male or female.”

However, when asked how many genders there are, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirmed that his government has “no official position” on the matter.

Varadkar also declined to say whether or not a violent biological male who was being housed in a women’s prison was, in his view, a female.

In a recent report, Gript previously revealed that Dublin Bus is allowing biologically-male transgender staff to use women’s bathrooms and changing rooms if that staff member identifies as a woman.

It was also revealed that an official booklet for schools by the Irish national health service, the HSE, informs primary school students as young as 8 that they can identify as “a boy, a girl, neither or both.”

Moreover, Irish civil servants in all departments have been urged to use their “preferred pronouns” in their email signatures, even if they don’t identify as transgender, in order to be an “ally” to LGBTQ+ colleagues.
