New research on the world’s cheapest and most expensive cities for parking has shown that Dublin scored in joint-ninth place for the highest fines and charges alongside Toronto. In contrast, New Delhi came in second for the cheapest after Kuala Lumpur.
The research, from rental platform, DiscoverCars.com, is based on the average cost of hourly parking and the average parking infraction fine.
Dublin and Toronto totaling 127 points each. The Irish capital city’s score was due to an average hourly parking rate of €3.71 and a parking violation, costing €120.12.

The most expensive cities were Amsterdam (fines are €305.19 and hourly parking is €6.18) and Chicago (fines are €241.53 and hourly parking is €5.96) with 158 and 156 points respectively.
London came 3rd with 143 points. In 4th and 5th, was Copenhagen and Seattle with 139 and 136 points.
“Looking at 80 of the most populated global cities based on the cost of parking and fines, we have scored them out of 160 points and ranked them according to these factors,” DiscoverCars.com said.
“Within the findings for the world’s most expensive cities for parking charges, our team found that overall, 8 out of the 10 highest-ranking cities were all in Europe. There was also a high – €3.04 – difference between the 1st and 10th ranking cities,” they added.
Regarding average parking fines, their findings concluded that 50% of the top 10 most expensive charges were all based in the United States — Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, Los Angeles and Houston.
Mexico headed the rankings with an average parking fine equating to €399.99.
