The Sunday Business Post yesterday reported on an interesting fissure among Irish Captains of Industry regarding the Mercosur deal. In the piece, the head of IBEC’s prolific lobbying section, Fergal O’Brien, made it clear that IBEC fully supports the EU trade agreement with the Latin American countries.
He felt that he needed to clarify the fact that IBEC was fully behind Mercosur and its “net benefits” for the Irish economy as one of its affiliates, Meat Industry Ireland, had issued a statement which backed the Government’s decision not to support the deal when it came up for decision among the EU member states.
