As of today, 13 of the 27 member states of the European Union who are also signatories of the Schengen Borders Code (SBC) have in place temporary border control as a response to a perceived serious threat to public policy or internal security.
The Irish state is not part of the Schengen Area due to separate arrangements with the United Kingdom.
