It has been incorrectly reported that Oisín O’Connor, a Green Party councillor, was forced to delete a tweet offering to help pay a 300 euro fine arising from an assault conviction.
Cllr O’Connor made the offer to Leah Doherty, a far-left activist who was convicted on two counts of assault for throwing a milkshake at two men in 2019. Doherty has called the assaults an “act of protest.” The tweet said “DM me your revolut or similar, I’ll help out with the fine. That being said, €300 to milkshake these racist vermin, sounds a bit of a bargain.”
The Irish Independent has reported that the offending tweet was removed after members of the public complained about the tweet.
Officials from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) have similarly told members of the public, including one who complained that the Cllr’s tweet promoted illegal activity, that the tweet was removed following an “engagement” between council officials and Cllr O’Connor. Officials said that they had also engaged with the Cllr “on the obligations of Elected Members to have regard and to be guided by the Code of Conduct for Coucillors.”
However it is not the case that Cllr O’Connor deleted the tweet, despite the statements to the contrary made by both council officials and Cllr O’Connor himself. As you can see below.

We’ll update this story with a screenshot should the Cllr delete the tweet later.
