GQ Magazine ‘honouree’ list for ‘men of the year’ includes 7 women

25th annual GQ Awards

GQ Magazine’s annual men of the year honouree list curiously features the names of more than a few female personalities.

Of the 19 names on the list 7 are female including House of the Dragon star Emma D’arcy.

D’arcy, who previously told Pink News that she “really likes playing women” as she’s “really good at it”,  identifies as ‘non-binary’ and uses ‘they/them’ pronouns.

The others are Marisa Abela, Sheila Atim, Es Devlin, Myha’la Herrold, Sharon Horgan, and Ashley Walters

It is unclear why GQ decided to add female entertainers to this year’s list of honorees as, as the name suggests, ‘men of the year’ is supposed to be about recognising the achievements of male figures.

Event Host Conde Nast Events says, “Rather than honouring people in a distinct “awards” section of the issue, the entire MOTY issue will become a celebration of the people who dominated culture and shaped the zeitgeist of 2022”.

Maybe call the list ‘people’ of the year then.
