A German member of Parliament from Angela Merkel’s CDU party has died in an Irish hospital after falling ill during a trans-atlantic flight.
Karin Strenz, 53, was travelling from Cuba to Frankfurt with her husband on Sunday. However, that morning she fell seriously ill, and the flight was redirected to Shannon Airport with a request for on-the-ground medical assistance.
After landing around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Strenz was transferred to University Hospital Limerick, where she died shortly later of what is believed to be a “cardiac incident.”
A post mortem is expected to be conducted soon, and a coroner’s inquest will be conducted at a later date.
