A senior Garda intelligence official has warned about the threat of, and funding ecosystems surrounding, the “ultra-conservative Christian right” at a high-level Dublin conference of religious figures and counter-terrorism officials designed to help refine Ireland’s approach to extremism.
Assistant Commissioner Michael McElgunn made the remarks at a joint event with the Dubai-funded Interfaith Alliance for Safer Communities, hosted in conjunction with An Garda Síochána on August 27 at the Conrad Dublin.
