It is European Gender Equality Week in the European Parliament, and the official programme is packed: panels, photo exhibitions, and roundtables, the usual parade of inclusion and empowerment, with repeated ritual nods to the “glass ceiling”.
A few streets away on Tuesday evening, however, another event about women took place that nobody in the Parliament wanted on the schedule. It might as well have been held on another planet.
