The European Union is to provide an extra €710 million to what it terms “displaced people” in Africa and beyond, Brussels has announced.
Speaking at the United Nations in New York on September 26, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the additional funding was in part a response to harsh weather events in sub-Saharan Africa, something the bloc is attributing to “climate shocks”.
