The European Union has fined Google a record-breaking $1 billion for alleged breaches of the Digital Markets Act despite warnings from Washington DC that such a move would risk reprisals.
Brussels’ €890 million — consisting of two separate fines of €460 million and €430 million — is the largest cumulative penalty ever handed out under the DMA since its implementation in 2023.
