The decision by the Irish Government to oppose ratification of the EU – Mercosur trade deal once again demonstrates – to some of us “sceptics” at least – that when it comes to fundamental Irish interests the majority of “our European partners” could not care less about the Irish state other than as a minor and mostly compliant cog.
We can point to numerous other examples; from the bank bailout, to the opening up of the state to mass immigration to facilitate EU expansion, and the virtual destruction of the fishing industry.
