The list for the proposed August event was first spotted by a hacktivist who posted the information online. American platform Wired acquired documents belonging to Dialog last month, including a list of members.
Powerscourt Estate, which is a separate business from the Hotel and Spa, said it was “relieved and pleased” that the Dialog event would not take place.
“Following a period of great concern for Powerscourt Estate and on foot of discussions with The Powerscourt Hotel, we are relieved and pleased to announce the Dialog event planned for August at the Powerscourt Hotel has been cancelled,” a spokesperson said.
It thanked its staff, neighbours, supporters and legal team for their backing “through this difficult and challenging time”.
Individuals representing an international group called Dialog have initiated legal proceedings after the venue booked to host the conference cancelled the reservation.
As Gript previously reported, an international invitation-only event linked to billionaire investor Peter Thiel, scheduled to take place at the luxurious 5-star Powerscourt Hotel in Wicklow in August, was cancelled earlier this month.
The venue issued a statement saying that “a publicised event scheduled to take place in August will now not be taking place at the Hotel”.
Now, representatives of the group Stonebrick LLC, trading as Dialog, have issued legal proceedings intending to sue the venue after legal documents were lodged with the court services on Tuesday.
The group is being represented by Fenecas Law, whose client list includes X owner and billionaire Elon Musk.
The case is against Sugarloaf Ventures Ltd, trading as Powerscourt Hotel and is listed for mention before the Commercial Court next Monday, with the group hoping to be granted entry to the list, which gives priority to cases valued at €1 million and above.
The conference has previously been held at luxury establishments around the world since 2006 and usually features organised discussions on global affairs, bringing together senior figures from technology, finance, defence and politics, in addition to prominent opinion writers.
Former attendees include Elon Musk and YouTube’s Neal Mohan. Talks at the event reportedly included ‘Money (Does?) Buy Happiness’ and ‘Bring Back Nuclear’ and ‘Navigating WWIII’.
Supporters of Dialog say the retreat allows for open, wide-ranging discussion, while critics have been sceptical of its aims given the secrecy that seems to surround the event.
