On the topic of the Ukraine War and the proposed conclusion to it advanced by the White House, it is important to understand what the Ukraine-skeptic position on what the root causes of the war actually are. What is the central dispute that those who would make peace are trying to resolve?
For example, one of the central claims advanced by those who blamed the west for the outbreak of the war was that Russia could not possibly tolerate the eastward advancement of US economic and security interests onto its borders. There were claims that the alleged presence of US-controlled bio-laboratories on Ukrainian soil was evidence of that encroachment. Interestingly the closure and removal of those bio-laboratories is not part of the current administration’s offers to Russia, and curiously very few people who once professed to care very deeply about this offence to Russian dignity – including the Russians – are even mentioning it any more.
