And so, we are in Leaving and Junior Cert season. When I did my Leaving Cert way back, there was no fuss about it. I don’t remember it featuring much, if at all, on RTÉ, and there was little to nothing in the newspapers. I daresay this meant we felt less pressure than Leaving Cert students do today.
There was no internet, of course. Parents could not go online to find out what was in today’s Leaving Cert exam. Now they can. We all can. Recently, I wrote a piece for Gript about the ongoing revision of Leaving Cert history, which looks set to give the subject the ‘woke’ treatment, that is, Western civilisation will be cast in a negative light, and so will the Catholic Church.
