A meeting of concerned interest groups heard that an upcoming bill to ban ‘conversion therapy’ will have a “chilling effect” on how therapists interact with their patients who present with gender dysphoria.
Representatives from a wide range of backgrounds including women’s rights groups, Christian and Islamic faith groups, educators, politicians, detransitioners and mental health professionals heard that the bill was based on reports into allegations of ‘conversion therapy’, the findings of which have been referred to by a doctor as “significantly limited”.
