The public service broadcasting project in Ireland has failed. What began one hundred years ago in Dublin with the launch of 2RN radio station on the 1st January 1926, and has since evolved into multiple radio and TV stations, can no longer claim to serve the public with impartial, balanced content, and has become the purveyor of the disinformation and fake-news it claims to be countering by its adoption of an explicitly ideological position on the topic of gender identity.
Four years ago, in June 2022, I was one of the many speakers on the three now infamous RTÉ Radio One Liveline shows that covered the topic. I spoke to presenter, Joe Duffy, about parallels between gender identity theory and religion. During those three shows a whole range of views and voices were aired. Speakers included people who were trans, non-binary, those who subscribed to gender identity belief, and those who didn’t. Despite the balance however, absolute uproar ensued.
