I’m as much an advocate of children reading as anyone, but I’m also of the opinion that monitoring what they read matters, and I’d imagine a great many of the country’s parents are too. Which is why the State-supported, philanthropy-funded national reading promoter’s decision to suggest entirely inappropriate reading material for kids during Pride Month is so outrageously objectionable.
Children’s Books Ireland (CBI), on its website homepage, proudly proclaims that their 2025 Pride Reading Guide has arrived, which recommends “100 great LGBTQ+ reads for ages 0-18”. It does what it says on the tin. The 28-page document contains 100 book recommendations to enable your child to get involved in celebrating Pride, from the earliest ages. That is unambiguously the aim of this reading guide.
