The mother and sister of jailed teacher Enoch Burke, Martina and Ammi Burke, have been sentenced to two weeks in prison each after they were both found to be in contempt of court by Mr Justice Brian Cregan.
Both women failed to make an appearance before the Four Courts this morning to hear the judgment of the court after a hearing last week at which both women made submissions.
After it was confirmed that neither woman was in attendance at the court this morning, Justice Cregan issued an order for their attachment and committal, after Isaac Burke spoke to tell the court that both his mother and sister are “at their place of work”.
The contempt proceedings related to the “shouting” and “interruptions” made by both women at the hearing of an application of Enoch Burke heard on the 20th of February last, which were struck out as being “moot”.
Mr Justice Cregan has stated that the Burke “family circus” could no longer be tolerated in their “abuse” of the courts.
Enoch Burke said this was a “fearful and nefarious” judgment.
