Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition, Sam Brinton, admitted to taking the suitcase from a baggage reclaim area in a St. Paul Minnesota Airport on the 16the of September last after initially denying doing so.
The Washington Times reports that Brinton took the case from the airport in St. Paul despite not having checked in any luggage of his own.
Police were able to track him down through CCTV and confirm that he took the luggage from the airport, removing the identification tags, before checking into a hotel with it.
Brinton later admitted to taking the suitcase but continued to deny having knowledge of the female clothing the bag’s owner told police it contained.
“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have any clothes for another individual. That was my clothes when I opened the bag.” he said.
The 35 year old, who was a prominent trans rights campaigner, is set to appear at Hennepin County district court in Minnesota on charges of felony theft on the 19th of December.
