You know, running a nation state is a lot like parenting in some ways. Because when it comes to maintaining order in a house or a society, some people only learn from being put in time out.
I’m sure at some stage most people have witnessed the pitiful sight of a parent in public telling their feral child in a pseudo-stern tone: “Now Timmy, I’m going to count to three!” And meanwhile the child is sprinting around screaming wildly and acting like a bull in a china shop, totally ignoring the countdown.
