Part of the TG4 Iniúchadh series last week provided a stark insight into the impact of emigration on rural communities. The emigration of young Irish people is something that is seldom aired despite the clear evidence provided by the official statistics.
Since the end of the Covid restrictions, 127,800 Irish people have left the state. While there are no recent breakdowns of the age cohorts, earlier research showed that the post-recession wave emigrants was two thirds made up of people in the 15 – 24 age group.
