At least 10 dead, dozens wounded in Prague horror shooting

A mass-shooting at a Prague university near the Old Town of the city has left at least 10 people dead, Czech authorities have said – while more than 30 people have been injured, nine of them seriously.

The gunman has been eliminated police reported.

Videos published on social media reportedly showed terrified people fleeing the scene of the shooting.

An email sent to staff at the university, seen by Reuters, warned them to: “Stay put, don’t go anywhere, if you’re in the offices, lock them and place furniture in front of the door, turn off the lights.”

One student posted a photograph apparently showing a barricaded classroom door.

Other students sought safety on the ledges of the University buildings.

The Czech president Petr Pavel he was “shocked” by the shootings.

“I am shocked by the events… I would like to express my deep regret and sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the victims claimed by the shooting,” Mr Pavel said on X.

Police had rushed to evacuate the buildings, saying that some students had locked themselves in their classrooms as the shootings happened.
