The figures just released by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DECEIY) for the provision of accommodation and other services for Ukrainians being granted Temporary Protection and others claiming asylum under the International Protection system show that a total of more than €2.1 billion was paid out in contracts for the whole of 2023.
The highest overall payment for the fourth quarter of €17.57 million was to the Cape Wrath hotel group, which runs City West, which brought its total take for the year to more than €53 million.
Second was Guestford with total payments of €11,081,534 in the quarter. Allpro Security received another payment for the 4th quarter of €8,205,565 .
The latest figures for the fourth quarter of 2023 show that the largest individual single payment in the last three months went to Mosney Homes, the UK owned former holiday company which topped the list of individual payments with €3,947,875. They received over €6 million in the third quarter and €25 million for the whole year.
Brimwood Limited, which is owned by former Monaghan GAA player and manager Séamus ‘Banty’ McEneaney and family, was paid the second highest total for the year of more than €30 million and received just under €7 million in the last quarter of 2023.
Most of the companies that featured in the top 20 recipients of payments for the third quarter, as reported here on Gript previously, are still among the major beneficiaries. These include Windward, Travelodge, Holiday Inn and Millstreet Equestrian. The top 20 companies for the 4th quarter pulled in €125.6 million.
An illustration of the fact that while there are hundreds of recipients that the payments are largely going to a small number of major companies, many of them either wholly owned or partly owned by overseas companies.
Among the newer beneficiaries are MF Modular homes who won the main contract for the supply of modular homes for Ukrainians who have been granted Temporary Protection. They received more than €4.3 million in the last three months of 2023 as the installation of the homes gathered pace. That brought their total payments for the year to over €7 million.
