A fundraiser has been launched to cover the cost of the funeral of a woman who died on Wednesday after falling from a balcony in Belmayne, Dublin, last Monday.
The family of the deceased woman, Kathleen Carey, says Ms Carey’s death came just two weeks after the family buried her sister. Having paid for one funeral, the relatives say they cannot afford to cover the cost of a second on their own.
The fundraiser describes Ms Carey as “kind, loving, funny” and “full of life”.
“She always made you smile with her quirky side,” the appeal says. “She was an amazing person who will be deeply missed.”
The family says they want to give her a dignified farewell. “We want to give her the best send off we possibly can,” the appeal states, adding that they are “asking for your help” because they cannot meet the cost alone.
The appeal also says the fundraiser is intended to support Ms Carey’s daughter. “This fundraiser is a way for us to come together and support Kathleen’s daughter at a very difficult time,” it says.
Organisers say every contribution counts. “Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated,” the appeal says. For those who cannot donate, it adds, “sharing the fundraiser would mean just as much.”
The appeal closes with a message of thanks: “Thank you to everyone who can help us through this difficult time.”
While it is understood that the original emergency call placed after the balcony fall said that the deceased woman had “jumped”, Gardaí are treating the incident as an alleged assault and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
