President Catherine Connolly has formally appointed counterterrorism specialist Ross Frenett as an ordinary member of An Coimisiún Toghcháin, following approval by both Houses of the Oireachtas, as the Electoral Commission prepares to play an increasingly central role in tackling online misinformation and safeguarding electoral integrity.
Frenett, a UCC-educated former corporal in the Irish Defence Forces, is the founder and CEO of Moonshot, an “online harms prevention” firm. His work has included involvement in Google-backed “prebunking” campaigns and efforts in Ukraine aimed at countering Russian disinformation warfare.
