A man accused of murder following a fatal assault in Dublin 7 was remanded in custody today.
Limerick man Jamie Bailey (38) died after being stabbed to death in the early hours of October the 18th.
Jayden Connell (18) of Belcomp Gardens, Dublin 17 appeared before Judge Michele Finan wearing a black puffer jacket today at the evening sitting of Dublin District Court.
His solicitor, Connor Creann, told the court, “Regretfully, we’re not acting today.” due to ongoing strike action by criminal defence solicitors.
Judge Finan thanked Mr Creann for the courtesy of coming to court to explain his position.
Detective Garda Michael Lennon, stationed at the Bridwell, gave evidence that Mr Connell was arrested today at 15:23 pm and charged a short time later.
When a copy of the charge sheet was handed to him, he made a reply to the charge of murder, Detective Lennon said.
Asked by the judge whether he had any medical or mental health issues, Mr Connell replied, “No, that’s okay.”
Judge Finan told him she had no power to grant bail and that he would have to apply to the High Court. She remanded him in custody.
He will appear again at Cloverhill District Court by video link at 10 am on Friday the 13th of November 2026.
Mr Bailey, who was a grandfather, was found on a footpath with serious injuries and died sometime later. Gardaí discovered him at Blackhorse Place after being alerted by the public.
Investigating officers believe he had been assaulted on the nearby Blackhorse Avenue.
