The latest annual report of the Irish Prison Service was published at the end of August. The report shows that of 7,354 persons who were committed to a jail within the state in 2025 that 1,955 were non-Irish nationals.
That group represented 26.7% of the total number of persons who were committed to prison in the state. As the graph and table below illustrate, that is significantly higher than the Central Statistics Office (CSO) estimate that 16.8% of the population of the state in 2025 were of other than Irish nationality.
