The stand-off on the Garvaghy Road is not, as some idiotic or deceptively lame takes would have it, about 35 pensioners just wanting to complete a harmless parade route. Almost no-one with a brain thinks that’s what is happening, apologists for unionism aside.
As my colleague Thomas O’Reilly noted yesterday, the PSNI should release the basis for their utterly absurd determination that, after a 28-year hiatus wrung from horrific violence and loss of life, the most contentious parade route in living memory should resume.
