Irish musician and actor, Glen Hansard, has tragically died following a single vehicle road traffic collision in Lucan in Co. Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
The famed Dublin artist, who hailed from Ballymun, was a member of one of Ireland’s most well-known bands, The Frames, and played Outspan in the hit film, The Commitments. He won an Oscar in 2008 for co-writing with Markéta Irglová the song Falling Slowly for the film Once.
He is survived by his wife, poet Maire Saaritsa, and his son.
Mr. Hansard (56), who was travelling on a motorcycle, was treated at the scene of the collision but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Gardaà are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have relevant camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaÃ.
