State efforts to promote electric vehicles have cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of euros directly in grants and infrastructure, yet new figures show electric cars account for just 4% of total vehicles in Ireland.
Figures published today by the Central Statistics Office show that despite extensive state funding and incentives, battery electric vehicles continue to represent a small fraction of total vehicles on Irish roads.
