New figures from the Central Bank’s National Claims Information Database, highlighted in the Law Society’s Justice Matters newsletter (Summer 2026), confirm that soaring insurance premiums are being driven overwhelmingly by insurers’ own costs and profits, not by claims payouts, legal fees or compensation awards.
The Law Society also point out that in 2024 alone Irish motorists paid €1.4 billion in motor insurance premiums.
