While the State has long stressed the need for the Shannon Pipeline which Uisce Éireann claims is necessary to meet growing demand in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA), opponents have said that the proposal is not being subjected to the proper public scrutiny.
They also claim that attempts are being made to proceed with the project before proper planning procedures are conducted and before planning permission is granted or otherwise in the normal manner involving the local authorities and with the normal input of local communities and others.
