So much of what passes for political commentary in this country is either lame political gossip, or an uninspired reiteration of the obvious, or the endless platforming of the current media favourites to allow them to claim that they, and only they, truly understand the hearts and minds of the electorate.
The continued slump of Labour – as a party – in most of the current opinion polls, where it hovers between a dismal 3-5%, means that the Social Democrats have now become the progressive favourites of the Irish media. This guarantees them the sort of soft interview devoid of any challenge to statements presented as fact in relation to the direction of the country or the intention of voters.
